The benefits of giving a horse a break

October 15, 2021
Do you remember the commercial, “Calgon take me a way”? Let’s refresh. In the 70s and 80s it was a commercial for bath products. Well, if horses could talk, some may be saying “Just take me away – I need a quick break!”
Just like us, horses also need a break from work. A little break never hurt no one and the horses really welcome it!
“Elm Drive is going to a farm for some relaxation. It’s not related to injuries,” says Hans Maron, “but it’s to allow her to just be a horse after two losses in a row.”
A good trainer takes notice when a horse needs some time to regroup, decompress from the pressures of training, and from daily routine of living in a barn.
Daily workouts and training takes a toll on them both mentally and physically. Like all athletes, they carry a busy schedule and sometimes, like human beings, they get burnout and it shows in their poor performance.
Elm Drive is at Peacefield Farm in Temecula, Ca for 60 days, and we are confident that after her R&R she’ll return refreshed, calm, and relaxed.
“Some farms are for relaxation and grazing, and others are for rehabilitation. If the horse is injured he/she goes to a rehabilitation center to get treatment for their injuries. In the end, you select the service and type of farm you need so they can facilitate that for you,” explains Hans.
So what will Elm Drive do at Peacefield? She’ll be grazing, playing around with other horses, and perhaps some light workouts. We look forward to her return and will continue to keep you updated on her progress.
